The Crew

As we are anxiously expecting Season Two of this show, let’s take a look back at one of the classics. The Crew took the net by storm, and if you haven’t seen it yet… well, then you’re just like me.

I know, right? Everything works here: the outer space The Office-style mocumentary, the comedic timing, the subtle effects, the annoying-yet-lovable characters, the silly storylines.

Shooting sci-fi web shows on a Green Screen is nothing new. First risked by Star Trek fan-shows which often looked terrible, it was later perfected in shows such as Frontier GuardCataclysmo, Safety Geeks:SVI and The Crew. Green Screen sets require some good knowledge of CGI and sound recording to get it right. The Crew keeps it simple without complicating the sets, i. e. moving the camera too much. For the most part the characters and story are enough. The effects only work secondary to enhance the plot and jokes and even when the CGI is moved in to underline a punchline, it’s not in your face.

The acting is sublime. The lines are delivered naturally and possibly ad-libbed at times, and there is not a single boring character. Again, here is a show that is way too short for its own good, so if you crave to see the same writers, producers and actors head on over to Lost & Found and enjoy another romp through the hilarious minds of these guys.

With the introduction of an evil alien at end of the season it is clear more goodness is ahead. Even giving the alien his own blog is a brilliant stroke, although it does seem to remind us of the brilliant Zerks Log, doesn’t it?
