The Darkness Descending represents everything a web show should be.
A strong leading character, believable yet simple sets, high quality editing and cinematography. The expression ‘underground film making’ does apply very well, not just because of its underground setting. The style is by no means mainstream, yet very fitting for a web show.
The set-up hints on it being a documentary, filmed and narrated by an unseen girl, but the multiple angles and flashbacks lean more towards straight-forward story telling, meshing it perfectly with the gritty documentary style.
The story is of a cop who used to patrol the underground tunnels of New York City. After disaster stuck his life, he hit rock bottom and began to dig, ending up in the very place where he used to keep the peace: becoming one of them… one of the homeless.
This show’s run has just begun, so we shall see where it goes. So far it is worth watching.
