Grad students straight out of film-school look at the Web Series World and seem to share one thought: things could be better.
Of course they are right. Where production values and writing are concerned web shows still fall far behind established TV standards, with a few exceptions. Samantha Hatch is a Calarts film directing Grad student and willing to proof that she can elevate the web series standard and yank it out of its infancy. Taking her graduation thesis, a 20-minute film called Sands of Mexico shot in luscious Manzanillo, Mexico in 2009, she set out to conquer the Web Series World. Her plan is to use said short-film as a sort of pilot and then continue the story with a web series. The story is a relationship-drama as we’ve seen them hundreds of times, yet never seem to get old.
For your consideration, here is the trailer created out of elements of her short-film. So far it’s looking decent. It seems Sam knows her stuff and is worthy of her graduation. But can she deliver what she promised? She certainly deserves the benefit of a doubt.
For those wanting to see parts of her short-film, click here (heed some language). And for those wanting to help fund this interesting project, a few more American Pesos are always appreciated, with producer credits and even a stay in a Mexican Villa to attend the shooting possible. See here.
