My father always notes, and my married brother agrees, that I should finally get hitched — after all, he says, theres no reason why I should be better off than everyone else.
After hearing a lot of good things about this show I figured it was time to give Real Life a shot. Being resolutely single it’s always good to find out what the Other Half is going through. And let me tell you, if its anything like this, sign me up.
RLwMP is basically the story of a couch and its permanent residents, a lovable couple played with gusto and chutzpa by Celia Finkelstein and Destin Berthelot who are real-life married people themselves, often to each other. The episodes are short squirts of hilarity, no more than 2 minutes, often less, and as such great for quick-clicks or iPod viewings. They’re directed by Deanna Russo who’s the kind of person you’d think should spend her whole time in front of the camera. She has plenty, but with this stint she shows that she’s as good behind the camera as she is in front. If not better.
The writing is tight and comical, but it is the performances of Celia and Destin that make it work. The chemistry of this lovable couple is undeniable. This is a show that deserves second viewings. Its a truly fun look at the sidesplitting head-on-collision of our two sexes called ‘marriage’.
Maybe my father’s right after all. He usually is.
