As most VisiowebTV readers know, one of our favorite shows The Black Dawn is currently on it’s first national TV run and going strong. They are also working out deals with international distributors for a European run, which would be a first for any US web show to not just go national TV, but international TV.
For those who’ve missed the show, here is a special treat. Instead of creating a sequel or a season II, the indie studio behind the show, the very prolific New Renaissance Pictures through their site WebSerials.com, decided to create — in a very George Lucas-fashion — a prequel, explaining the circumstances, characters and motivations up until moments before the initial events of The Black Dawn — it quite literally ends where The Black Dawn begins.
Dawn is about a sudden cataclysmic event that kills everyone on the planet and manifests itself through a massive black cloud that literally turns day into night. Only a hand-full of students survive and we follow their experiences in this new world on their quest to find other survivors, the cause for the sudden event and why only they survived (reminding you of Afterworld or Cataclysmo? Okay, a little bit, but don’t say it out loud).
Catalyst explains several of the event and characters leading up to the black cloud that Dawn only hinted upon. So, if you haven’t seen The Black Dawn, start with the 4-part show Catalyst to get you in the mood. For those fearing spoilers, fret not. Whether you start with Catalyst or Dawn, some spoiling is inevitable, but starting with Catalyst will give you an edge over the very complex Dawn. But if you’d rather be surprised, then start here.
New Renaissance Pictures is one of the few indie studios with several highly successful and acclaimed shows in their lineup: Project X, Cataclysmo 1&2, Trunk, Black Dawn,Nora Breaks Free and now Catalyst. As we are told, another show called Best Laid Plans is well on it’s way, a new innovative improv-sitcom, featuring some of the stars ofBlack Dawn, Cataclysmo and Trunk. We can be sure this will be another hit show and we will keep you up to speed the moment it hits the Internets.
Seriously, whatever this studio serves up, we’ll have a double if you please.
