In these dreadful times it is hard to find humor in downsizing. After all, what’s funny about loosing your job? What’s funny about struggling in an economy that seems to widen the infamous Gap and where is the humor in loosing your house?

In these times the show Downsized is right on the mark. It is by no means a comedy with wacky characters, quirky one-liners and toilet-humor. Downsized approaches the issues of our economy on a personal and sane angle. Thus Downsized is a pastiche of real life. Each episode presents a different circumstance, different characters and issues, all sharing the subject of our economy and how people react to it. It is with these reactions that the humor or drama lies.

Downsized is beautifully crafted and shot as well as perfectly acted. Don’t expect to LOL or ROFL — that’s not the point. It is a glimpse into various episodes and circumstances surrounding the current economical crisis. Maybe you have lost your job, maybe you have watched your friends loose it: either way with Downsized you will experience how The Others feel and fair, the people you only hear about on the news, the person who just walked past you or is sitting at the other table.

Of course, if there is humor to be found in a certain circumstance, then so be it. And you may suddenly find yourself ROFLing after all.
