LG15: The Last is probably not the last installment of the Lonelygirl15 franchise. After Resistance and KateModernthere is also a Polish version (N1ckola) and there is indeed talk of yet another series in the pipes called LG15: Outbreak. Who would have thought that this lonely-girl-blogging-thing would spawn such a massive interest in interactive entertainment.
Like its three predecessors, The Last was a story open to viewer opinions and suggestions and to a degree gave the viewers a possibility to participate in what was happening by supposedly giving the characters clues and information and sending them in.
But with Last the production company EQAL took the idea of such viewer participation even further. It could be argued that The Last was an outsourced show, due to the economical crisis. After the end Resistance they opened the possibility for fans to create their own pilots for a new show and then produce it. As EQAL explains, they received eighteen pilot submissions. The winner was announced via live chat by EQAL Head of Production Amanda Goodfried to be LG15: The Misfits. The pilot however caused significant controversy, as it had been produced by two former employees of EQAL (Jenni Powell and Logan Rapp) and starred two former cast members of the original lonelygirl15 series (Maxwell Glick and Becki Kregoski).

The producers later pulled out of the project after they discovered that they wouldn’t be fully financially compensated for their work on the show, despite the contest rules stating that there would be no financial reward. Because of this, the announced runner-up, LG15: The Last, (which was also planned to be featured on the site) was crowned the winner.
Maybe that was a good thing, because although more home-grown than the previous shows, Last feels a lot more grown-up. The editing is tight, the story-telling tighter and there really is a well executed sense of suspense that does not always seem forced. While the original LG15 and Resistance took place in the US, KateModern was set in London. Last however is set in Australia making full use of its Sidney location, even a bit of
the Outback. The actors have that delicious Australian twang and the locations feel different and wonderfully non-American. It should be noted that there are a few instances of [explicit] language, but those are only in the pilot and then very infrequent.
So for those not yet in the know about how the LG15 story continued after Resistance, here is the rest. But be warned, there is still no end to the series, and LG15 will haunt the realm of web shows for quite some time yet to come.
