What if the Greek gods had fallen from Olympus and were now sharing an apartment in NYC as 20-somethings? And what if they decided to do a Real World style documentary about themselves?
Then you get O-Cast, a show that puts Greek Mythology in a New York City perspective. A basic knowledge of Greek Mythology is not required, but it does help in distinguishing the various character and personalities. The creators really tried to bring out the old loves and rivalries among them as recorded by Homer, and spin a relationship dramedy out of it, set in a contemporary context.
Of course the gods don’t know diddly-squat about life on earth or New York City. Or dating mortals for that matter. After all, there was a time when all they had to do was to come down, have god-like sex with the mortals and that was that. Now entering a whole new world even Apollo and Zeus find it hard to settle in their new lifestyles.
And then there is the internet, ye gods, the internet…
The Real World feel is perfect, and although it’s at times a bit hard to imagine that these people are supposed to be gods, they do an excellent job acting and performing their otherworldly characters as good as possibly. This show is still in its initial run, so check back to watch more!
