Mountain Man is another entry in the parade of Unusual Web Series. And that’s a good thing.
Revolving around a tree-hugging new-age hippie ex-folk star survivalist Gaia prophet named Jonas and his mission to create a manifesto to bring down ’Uncle Sam’, the story is set for the most part in the wild. Besides being all of the above things, Jonas is also a paranoid populist and puts the ‘irrational’ in conspiracionalist — is that a word? No, it isn’t. But it should be.
Slowly gathering a bumbling army of like-minded followers at his secret hide-out, we follow Jonas in his revolution that is hilarious not because of dumb joke and sly double entendres but because of the setting and the utter seriousness with which Jonas approaches his Gaia-given mission. The word ‘wacky’ applies to his character only insofar that his lines and demeanors are eccentric… to say the least. A run-of-the-mill stoner story this is not. It’s better.
The production quality, acting and directing as well as sound, editing and coloring are outstanding. This show is a labor of love and upholds a decent standard for being indie-produced and guerrilla-made. Since Jonas is an ex-musician gone bushwacked, music plays an integrate part of the story. In fact, Jonas hit-single is the kind of song that should really make it onto the charts… not just in the series. Don’t believe me? Listen to it yourself and tell me you can’t resist doing the Duffel Bag Shuffle with Jonas. Now if only there was an MP3 download…
Enough talking. Swing your guitar over your shoulder, wipe your long hair out of your face, spit once and watch Mountain Man. And don’t forget your gun. After all, Uncle Sam is watching…
