Life with Kat & McKay was a real surprise. Hidden away on small, unpretentious website under “webisodes” this show packs a punch.
Produced, directed and written by Sandra J. Payne, this show is well written, well directed and well acted. There is very little to bicker about, except for maybe that it deserves more exposure. The pilot episode was still a bit in the experimental stage where set up, pacing and sound where concerned, but it still works great and sets the scene for a wonderful show in its initial run.
The story is simple, but one we all can relate to (well some of us anyway, me excluded). When Mama’s Boy, McKay Dunn (Jack Wallace), asks Daddy’s Girl, Kat Steele (Jenna Finley), to marry him, they’re deliriously happy… for about a minute. And then the uphill trudge to the altar begins as their circle of family and friends keeps putting roadblocks in their path. Will they make it?
The supporting cast is fantastic in their hate/love relationships for each other and the couple, and it is a delight to watch this show unfold. Presented in a pseudo-documentary format, incorporating hand-held camera work that strongly reminds of Arrested Development only better (I was never a fan of AD, you know), it captivates quickly and wont let go so easily.
It just puzzles me why my first thought when watching this show was a mental connection to Keeping Up Appearances…
The very cool, yet unpretencious site here.
