Gold is basically the web show answer of RPG gamers to The Guild’s video gamers.
It follows of a group of professional RPG gamers as they balance the mind-game-world of board games and the mind-game-world of life. The game used is Goblins & Gold, an obvious nod towards Dungeons & Dragons or it’s counterparts.
Like The Guild before it, a basic knowledge of the particular subculture is not required but beneficial to get a lot of the jokes and innuendos, but either way the show paints an accurate picture of the RPG world, and although it attempts to put a comedic spin to the RPG gaming community, more than you’d expect actually rings true.
The acting and directing is very much up to web series standards and enjoyable in every respect. What is unusual is that the creators took a die-cast to finance the show in part by viewer donations through Kickstarter.com. The show is coming up on its second season and there seems to be no slowing down the dice, so ready your spells and hold back the goblins! More Gold is coming…
